The Louvre in Paris plans to increase its basic entrance fee by 29% in 2024.
The hike, from €17 (R350) to €22 (R453), is the first since 2017 is to offset increased costs and to allow visitors under 18 years of age, teachers and journalists to have free entry.
However, concerns have arisen that the increase will cause elevated costs for visitors during the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
Although the museum’s higher prices are not directly related to the Olympics, it reflects the broader trend of rising costs in Paris, coinciding with the preparations for the major event.
Paris metro ticket prices will nearly double during the Olympics from July 26 next year, while the cost of accommodation could rise by 300% between December 2023 and 2024.
