A 140km section of the new Java High Speed Railway will open on August 18, connecting Jakarta with Bandung.

According to the Bangkok Post, the new service will cut the three-hour travelling time between the two cities to just 40 minutes.

The line will link Jakarta with Bandung, the capital of West Java, along one of the world’s most densely populated travel corridors, reports The Diplomat.

The section to open in August is just one part of the Java High-speed Rail system, ultimately linking Jakarta in the West with Surabaya in the far eastern end of the island.

The high-speed service will operate at a top speed of 400km/h.
