Global tour operator G Adventures is the latest tourism organisation to announce new itineraries to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The tours will be available from next year. G Adventures is currently planning to visit the Balkan country to explore how the company can expand existing itineraries and benefit local communities.
The adventure tourism specialist said it was part of a collaboration between the Global Travel & Tourism Resilience Council (GTTRC) and the US Government’s USAID Developing Sustainable Tourism in Bosnia and Herzegovina (USAID Turizam) initiative.
Laurie Myers, Global Strategist for GTTRC, said: “Over the past few years, Bosnia and Herzegovina has been celebrated among the burgeoning sustainable destinations during our conferences and events.”
G Adventures shared a similar view on the potential growth of the tourism industry in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“As more travellers start to visit, it’s important that tourism develops the right way – a way that supports local people and communities,” said Yves Marceau, Product VP for G Adventures.
Bosnia and Herzegovina opened up to tourists after a civil war in the 1990s, the scars of which are still visible throughout its east-meets-west-style cities. The tourism industry is experiencing a recovery, with Intrepid Travel having launched tours through the country last year in collaboration with USAID as well.
Tourism in the country is concentrated in the cobblestoned city of Mostar as well as Sarajevo, the location of Archduke Franz Ferdinand’s death. With G Adventures already offering stops in these two cities in their Balkan itineraries, the announcement hints at the inclusion of other, less frequently visited destinations.
