Three major cruise ports across Florida reopened over the weekend after briefly being closed to the public due to concerns about damage inflicted by Hurricane Ian.
Port Tampa Bay, Port Canaveral and Jacksonville's JAXPort are all now open again to maritime traffic, including passenger cruise ships. These ports were the ones nearest to the direct path of the Category 4 hurricane.
In a statement to The Points Guy, Carnival said three of its ships that had been delayed returning to the ports this week — Carnival Paradise, Carnival Liberty and Carnival Elation — all returned to the reopened ports on Saturday (October 1).
Carnival said passengers on a delayed sailing would get a one-day, pro-rated refund of the cruise fare and US$50 (R900) onboard credit. Passengers could also cancel their trip for a full refund.
PortMiami and Fort Lauderdale’s Port Everglades had also temporarily closed but reopened to cruising on Friday (September 30).
Port Canaveral officials confirm that the port’s Jetty Park and Rodney Ketcham Park boat ramps are still closed until further notice.
