Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport has announced that more than 100 employees from the airport’s partners will assist passengers or help with baggage handling from July 1 until September 4, joining the airport’s ‘Flamingos’.
‘Flamingos’ are office staff who have been assigned to help with passenger or baggage processes at least once a week while the airport continues to battle a surge in passengers that has led to capacity caps.
The staff who are helping out are from Microsoft, Cognizant, Aboma, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, and also from contractors such as Vanderlande, BAM and Heijmans.
“It’s heart-warming to see that large numbers of our partners’ office staff want to help out in the terminal. We are happy to accept that help with both hands. This not only helps travellers but also eases our staff’s workload. We are very grateful,” said Patricia Vitalis, Director of Airport Operations at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.
The Flamingos all received extensive training beforehand and travellers can recognise them by their bright pink vests.
