Dubai plans to build a US$5bn (R86,6bn) moon-themed resort designed by Canadian architectural company, Moon World Resorts.
The 225m-high spherical ‘moon’ is central to the design. The area around the ‘lunar’ surface, dubbed the ‘lunar colony’, is intended to evoke the sensation of being on or close to the surface of the Moon.
The resort will take four years to build and is expected to bring in 2,5 million guests annually, reports Breaking Travel News.
Dubai Moon will encompass sectors such as space tourism, hospitality and technology. A night club and wellness centre are also planned.
The resort includes 300 residential ‘Sky Villa’ units available for purchase. Owners will become members of an exclusive private club at the resort.
The four-hectare development is to include an ‘authentic lunar colony’ aimed at anyone interested in space tourism.
