Digital nomad visas are once again available in Cyprus following a decision to resume the scheme by the Deputy Ministry of Migration and International Protection.
The digital nomad visa was first approved on October 15, 2021, initially allowing 100 applicants. On March 3, 2022, the Cabinet decided to increase the number of residence permits to 500, as reported by Travel News.
The programme was reportedly suspended in early 2024 to allow the government to assess and improve the system after it filled its initial quota of 500 visas, according to nomadsembassy.com.
The visa is available to non-EU/EEA citizens who work for an employer registered outside Cyprus. Digital nomads need a monthly income of at least €3 500 (R68 545), after deduction of contributions and taxes.
The permit is valid for one year, after which a two-year extension can be applied for. Applicants may enter Cyprus on a tourist visa and then submit their applications within three months at the Migration Department.
