Travel News Weekly has been telling your travel stories for 50 years.
At the heart of the community are the people, the heroes in our industry – those agents, suppliers and colleagues who live travel, go the extra mile and are always on hand to help.
Before COVID-19 and the world of travel changed forever as we know it, we asked our readers to nominate their heroes and tell us a story of how they ‘saved the day’ and came to the rescue. We received a wonderful response of heartfelt stories, showing how much commitment, love and dedication there is out there.
A hero is defined as a person who is admired for their courage, strength and ingenuity in the face of adversity. If the last few weeks have shown us anything, it’s that people in travel are all this and more. Travel agents in particular have been on the frontline of the COVID-19 disaster, working 24/7 to assist clients, without any financial benefit for doing so.
There is no doubt that the travel industry will survive this cataclysm. When we are through the fire, all the wonderful people that make this industry so very special will be there to grab business opportunities.
And there will be opportunities. Clients will not forget the heroes who came to their rescue in their most desperate hour of need. They will tell those stories. Your stories.
And for as long as there are travel stories, there will be Travel News – in its new format– to tell them.
On that note, here are the tales of some of the many travel heroes (in no particular order) as nominated by you, dear reader. Enjoy!
