Commercial operations started on October 16 at Cambodia’s newest and biggest airport in the province of Siem Reap.
The new Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport replaces the Siem Reap International Airport, which first opened in 1932.
The new airport was designed to initially handle seven million passengers a year, two million more than the old airport.
According to CNN, the new airport, which was funded by China, is now the main gateway to the Unesco-listed Angkor Archaeological Park, one of the country’s most popular tourist sites. The Angkor Complex houses the remains of the different capitals of the Khmer Empire that spanned from the 9th to the 15th century.
