South Africa has finally received official confirmation from the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) that the 18-month travel ban imposed on South Africa has been lifted, with effect from September 10.
Direct flights between South Africa and Mauritius, on Air Mauritius, start October 1, and from that date, fully vaccinated travellers from South Africa (among other countries) will be allowed to stay at any hotel, resort or accommodation of their choice and move freely around the island. Comair says its flights Johannesburg to Mauritius will start from November 30.
Unvaccinated travellers will still have to undergo 14 days’ quarantine in a state-designated quarantine facility.
All travellers will need to present a negative PCR test, taken within 72 hours prior to departure. Children under 18 years of age do not need to be vaccinated if they are travelling with a fully vaccinated adult. However, they will also need to present a negative PCR test taken 72 hours before departure to Mauritius.
