American Airlines has rolled out a feature allowing its AAdvantage loyalty programme members to use frequent flyer miles on events including concerts, theatre productions and sports games, through an expanded partnership with Ticketmaster.
Previously AAdvantage members could earn miles and Loyalty Points on entertainment and events bought through Ticketmaster. Now AAdvantage members can burn the miles by purchasing tickets for events through the AAdvantage Events platform.
Members can purchase standard and re-sold tickets either solely with AAdvantage miles or using a combination of cash and miles. Purchases made entirely with cash will continue to earn miles.
The airline has also announced it will roll out the redemption of AA miles to buy a session of in-flight WiFi use in all its Viasat-equipped aircraft.
This has already been made available for AAdvantage members travelling in narrowbody aircraft, and an extension to widebody aircraft is to start in the coming spring.
