PREPARATIONS for the opening events at the R400m Sandton Convention Centre (SCC) have peaked, with the first event - the National Conference on Racism - scheduled to begin on August 29.
Intensive training of both permanent operations staff and a full team of temporary waitering staff began on site two weeks ago and this week, the entire operation was put through a full practice session, involving 800 people as "guinea pigs".
Christopher Trimble, director of operations for SCC says the convention centre has a full line-up of events - starting with next week's conference - which covers the full spectrum of conferences, exhibitions and special events.
"Our preparations over the last six months, culminating in the dry run this week, will ensure complete operational efficiency."
