In other news, South African padel enthusiasts can make the most of their stay at Club Med’s Indian Ocean destination resorts.
In addition to a collection of diverse sporting activities, Club Med is in the process of adding padel courts to its properties, keeping these resorts up to date with the latest trend in racquet sports.
Club Med’s office in South Africa is dead keen and it sponsored the Travel Industry Padel day in August 2024 alongside Air Mauritius at the Melrose Racquet and Ball Club.
After launching the first padel courts at Club Med in 2021, the resort chain now has 42 courts across 12 resorts, with three new courts launching at La Plantation d’Albion in Mauritius. Guests can also play padel at Club Med’s Seychelles resort and Club Med Kani in the Maldives, each of which have two courts available.
Now, all-inclusive packages at Club Med’s resorts include group padel lessons for all levels. There’s no need to register, guests simply choose the schedule that suits them best and head to the court. Racquets and balls are available free of charge from Club Med’s partner Babolat. The two brands have worked together since 2005, with Babolat providing tennis equipment and instruction for beginners as well as organised tournaments.
Padel, also called padeltennis, was officially created in Mexico in 1969. A mixture of tennis and squash, the sport is played by doubles and is ideal for spending quality time with family. The court is smaller than a tennis court and surrounded by glass. The ball can be bounced on the walls of the court. According to Club Med, even for a beginner, those lightning reflexes are acquired very quickly.
From six years old, children can take part in the padel fun, with lessons from the Mini Club Med. Kids from the age of eight can join the adults and play together as a family. For the seriously sporty, private lessons from the age of 11 are available at an introductory and advanced level. Up to three people can be booked for a lesson together.
Visiting a Club Med Indian Ocean Resort to enjoy an active holiday with the family is made easier through Club Med’s special offers for kids. When visiting the Seychelles or Maldives, Club Med allows kids under six years old to stay free in their own interconnecting room. And on a family stay in Mauritius, the offer applies to kids under 12 years old.
Seeing the great success and popularity of its padel court roll-out, Club Med now plans to install 80 padel courts across 21 of its resorts.
