Hospitality group IHG Hotels and Resorts, in collaboration with British business development services Zeal Hotels, has introduced its voco Zeal Exeter Science Park hotel in the UK. This is both businesses’ first lifecycle nett-zero carbon hotel, according to afritraveller.com.
Scheduled to open in 2024, the hotel has been designed in line with the UK Building Council’s Nett Zero Carbon Buildings Framework. It will be equipped with the IHG Green Engage system, an online environmental platform that assists in measuring, reporting and managing use of water and energy and production of waste.
The system also provides a list of ‘Green Solutions’ that will be implemented to improve environmental efficiency, including:
-
Setting up a property green team to monitor, manage and address the hotel site’s consumption data.
-
Purchasing and ingraining sustainable hotel operations.
-
Installing energy-efficient lights and appliances in all guest rooms.
IHG and Zeal have signed an exclusivity agreement that was revealed at the International Hotel Investment Forum in Berlin in May. The new hotel will be in Exeter Science Park, which, once developed, will house science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine businesses.
