The UK hotel quarantine for passengers who have been in ‘red list’ countries, including South Africa, announced last week by Prime Minister Boris Johnson, will come into effect on February 15. This was confirmed by the UK government who advised that Health Secretary, Matt Hancock, would take personal charge of implementation.
The UK government has said travellers from high-risk countries will be met at the airport and transported directly into hotel quarantine, which they will have to pay for themselves. The government added that commercial specifications had been made available to hotel firms and other providers and that contracts were expected to be signed early next week.
