Taipei's Songshan Airport is giving groups of eager would-be travellers a special tour. The ‘Pretend to Go Abroad’ airport tour begins with participants checking in and then going through all the usual travel security screening plus the newly implemented COVID-19 airport protocols.
They then board the plane and receive a briefing from the flight crew, before disembarking at the very same spot.
The ‘tourists’ can explore the terminal, eat snacks at one of the airport’s restaurants and shop in the duty-free store.
While it seems a far-fetched concept, the half-day tours are proving to be quite popular with locals, with some 7 000 ‘tourists’ responding to the airport’s post on social media.
All the costs are met by airport and airline authorities as part of a marketing strategy to showcase recent upgrades to the airport.
