Sun International says it is ready to reopen its resorts, hotels, casinos and restaurants following President Cyril Ramaphosa’s announcement on Wednesday (June 17) that lockdown restrictions would be eased for registered and licensed accommodation facilities and conferences.
Once government announces dates, the group will stagger the reopening of its properties across the country, says Anthony Leeming, Sun International ceo. “Leisure attractions, golf courses and swimming pools will also reopen, subject to necessary regulatory guidance.”
The group has introduced social distancing queue management, and every alternate seat at the casino slot machines and tables has been removed to create space between customers. The restaurant layouts have also been reconfigured to increase space between tables and meet head-count limits. Stringent and comprehensive cleaning, sanitising, and front- and back-of-house food handling and housekeeping procedures have been introduced. “These measures have now been further amplified across all areas of our properties countrywide,” Anthony says.
“Temperature tests will be conducted for all customers and all guests will need to complete a medical screening questionnaire on arrival at hotels, and in advance for casino visitors. For the foreseeable future, only members of our loyalty programme – our Most Valued Guests – will be allowed access on to the casino floor. It will be mandatory for all visitors to wear cloth masks at all times,” he says.
