A NEW social media
technology looks set to
sweep through Facebook
as a vehicle for consumer
engagement.
A watch party allows the
Facebook page administrator
to show videos or dedicated
comment reels to group
members simultaneously.
This creates a shared viewing
experience, explains Linda
Moyo, social media and
campaign co-ordinator for aha
Hotels and Lodges.
Aha used its latest watch
party to promote its Easter
School Break promotion,
offering 20% discounts on
hotel and lodge rates, for
booking and travel until
March 31, for a minimum of
a two-night stay at The Rex
Hotel, Shakaland and Bongani
Mountain Lodge, and for a
minimum of three nights at
The Gateway Hotel.
Linda says watch parties are
new and aha has only hosted
two of these promotions to
date. Because the social
media space is cluttered
with content, the difference
between successful digital
campaigns and those that
don’t provide return on
investment is engagement.
“Digital success, or rather
proving digital ROI, is an
ongoing concern. The main
reason for this is the rapid
rate at which technology is
being integrated into our daily
lives, thus constantly evolving
the way our customers
receive and consume
information, interact with
content or communicate
amongst each other as
peers,” says Linda.
Are the watch parties
successful? “There definitely
has been a significant
impact on the rate of online
consumer engagement with
aha Hotels and Lodges as a
brand,” says Linda
She adds that the company
is definitely planning to
host more watch parties
and introduce other fun and
engaging branding tactics in
the future.
