SAA has announced new
restrictions for passengers
transiting to the US from
March 25.
The restrictions relate
to carriage of Liquids,
Aerosols and Gels (LAGs)
purchased in duty-free areas
by passengers in transit in
Johannesburg, Accra or Dakar
from other destinations, who
then board SAA’s flights to
Washington and New York.
LAGs may not be transported
in the cabin baggage of any
passengers. This requirement
does not affect duty-free
items purchased at the last
point of departure.
Security gate search teams
will verify any duty-free items
purchased at upstream
airports and may deny the
carriage of items on the
flight.
“These restrictions are
imposed on all passengers
in transit/transfer to the US
and will apply to both SAA
flights to the United States,”
said SAA spokesperson, Tlali
Tlali.
Passengers are advised to
factor this in when planning
to transit/transfer through
Johannesburg, Accra and
Dakar to avoid unnecessary
discomfort and possible loss
of their items.
SAA operates two daily
flights to the US. The daily
flight to New York is a
non-stop flight, flights to
Washington fly via Accra four
times a week and Dakar
three times a week.
