TRAVELPORT will retire
Rooms and More on
August 3 to focus instead
on its multisource content
strategy, confirms a
company spokesperson.
“Product retirement is a
crucial part of an end-toend product management
lifecycle. Our aim is to
continue to move toward
aggregated hotel content
from multiple sources
delivered through a single
point of sale – Travelport
Smartpoint – to enhance
the user experience.”
A wide range of global
hotel content, from
household name brands
through to smaller, boutique
properties, is already
available through Travelport
Smartpoint and this will
continue to expand.
A handful of travel
consultants contacted by
TNW said they had not
used Rooms and More,
opting instead for some
of the many alternative
accommodation platforms
available, such as
Bedsonline, 24x7rooms,
Plum Accommodation or
Totalstay.
“Personally, I haven’t had
a call to use the platform,”
said one consultant,
although she did appreciate
that Rooms and More paid
agency commissions.
These sentiments echoed
those shared by the trade
on Travelinfo’s Open Jaw
Facebook group, with
members commenting
on web alternatives that
aggregated hotel content
and preferably paid
commission as opposed to
nett rates, now that Rooms
and More was retiring.
The discussion also
highlighted the importance
of checking the credentials,
insurance cover and
guarantees of any platform
selected, as well as the
need for effective local
support.
