France now boasts its first-ever cheese museum, Musée du Fromage, located in the heart of Paris.
The new museum celebrates the ancient and respected craft of French cheesemaking. France is the second-largest cheese producer in Europe, churning out 2 000 metric tonnes per year (Germany is the largest producer).
Visitors to the museum may explore the history of cheese, witness live cheesemaking, interact with cheesemakers, and sample various famous French cheeses.
Pierre Brisson, inspired by his childhood fascination with cheese, created the museum to fill a gap he saw in Paris’s cultural scene, which extensively showcased wine but lacked a dedicated space for cheese.
Brisson aims for the museum to connect visitors with rural France, highlighting the traditional methods and cultural significance of cheesemaking.
