Botswana-based accommodation and safari company, Roots & Journeys, has closed Mopiri Camp in the Okavango Delta for a rebuild following a fire that gutted the camp’s main area in September.

Anna Vanderfield, Roots & Journeys Marketing Director, told Travel News that the camp’s rooms had not been affected but management had decided to close the camp to speed up the rebuilding process of the affected area.

The camp is expected to reopen on March 15.

Mopiri is located on the western bank of the Weboro Lagoon, nestled between palm trees and under large shady fig trees. The ten luxury tented guest rooms have panoramic views of the Okavango Delta.

Activities include game drives, birding and boat trips into the Okavango Delta among others. The camp can be accessed by a helicopter.

Roots & Journeys has also added a new luxury tented camp, Wildside Camp, to its portfolio. This new camp was built on the site of Mankwe Camp, which burned down in 2017.

Wildside Camp, which offers ten luxury tents, is situated on the eastern edge of the Okavango Delta.

The tents have a spacious deck and indoor showers with views of the waterhole. There are several private shaded areas around the two swimming pools as well as a lounge and bar. Complimentary WiFi is available.
