The revenue generated among the top travel apps in 2023 far exceeded pre-pandemic levels.
The travel app market generated revenues of US$629 billion (R11,8 trillion) in 2023, a 13% increase from 2022. The revenue generated last year overtook what was made in 2019 by $55,8 billion (R1 trillion), reports businessofapps.com.
Among the top travel booking apps last year were Booking.com, Expedia, and Airbnb.
Booking.com generated $21,3 billion (R400,1 billion), followed by Expedia with $12.3 billion (R231,1 billion), and Airbnb with $9,9 billion (R186 billion).
Travel apps had 850 million users in 2023. New downloads for the year were as follows:
- Booking.com - 80 million downloads
- Airbnb - 57,6 million downloads
- Expedia - 21,5 million downloads
