Google flights to recommend sustainable train travel
American intercity train operator Amtrak will partner with Google to recommend sustainable travel options for those searching for travel options on Google.
Amtrak’s most up-to-date departure times, trip durations and fares will be displayed directly on the Google Search results page when travellers look for flights between two Amtrak destinations.
They can then select a train from the search results and will be redirected to Amtrak’s website without needing to re-enter their trip details.
“This integration makes it even easier for users to find rail options for their travel needs while also potentially lowering their carbon emissions,” said Roger Harris, President of Amtrak.
Deutschland-Ticket to rise by 18%
The popular monthly German train pass, Deutschland-Ticket, which currently costs €49 (R940) per month, will rise to about €58 (R1 115), from the beginning of next year, announced the transport authorities of 16 German states.
According to German officials, the increased fee will be used to further develop the pass.
Taiwan introduces new tourism trains
Taiwan will introduce two new tourist express trains in November to promote railway tourism in Hsinchu County.
The Taiwan Railway Corp said the area was home to tourist destinations such as Hsinchu Chenghuang Temple, Hsinchu Park, Hsinchu City Glass Museum and Hsinchu Zoo.
The train has a five-star dining carriage and hopes to attract culinary travellers, as well as cycling enthusiasts, with a carriage dedicated to travellers with bicycles, according to Taipei Times.
