Be part of one of the fastest growing industries in the world, earn more money and get access to discounted luxury holidays. Sounds too good to be true? It’s because it probably is…
A recent email campaign targeting the public caught the attention of the travel trade with the bold statement: “Take advantage of your own online travel booking engine, without having to be a travel agent or having the hassles of a travel agent!”
The mailer states: “Do you want to be part of one of the fastest growing industries in the world – travel? Do you want to earn more money, increase your residual income portfolio, or have a secondary source of income? We are offering you the chance to take advantage of this amazing opportunity in the travel industry.”
On further investigation, TNW discovered the email campaign was an effort by a company named World Ventures to lure members of the public to attend a seminar.
World Ventures, which was started in the US around eight years ago and has been in South Africa’s major cities for the past four years, describes itself as a ‘multilevel networking company’. How it works is that members sign up by paying around R3 200. They are then required to recruit a minimum of four people. They are promised discounts on dream trips, hotels and car rentals. The special packages are made possible through a search engine called Rovia, which, according to the World Ventures website, is affiliated to Iata and the American Society of Travel Agents. In short, members pay a fee to gain access to the travel products through Rovia.
