Hotel management tech company RoomRaccoon is partnering with Hotels for Trees in a carbon offsetting programme, where a tree is planted every time a hotel guest chooses not to have their room cleaned, according to sustainablehotelnews.com.
RoomRaccoon CEO Tymen van Dyl said: “The partnership will open a new avenue for RoomRaccoon, with the help of our clients, to give back, make a tangible difference and create a more sustainable hotel industry.”
The company is also funding the planting of 100 trees on behalf of each of its employees to celebrate the partnership.
Hotels for Trees was founded in 2021 and has contributed to over 132 500 trees for reforestation projects in the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Uganda, Madagascar, Mexico, Borneo, Vietnam, Bolivia and Ghana.
Chief tree planting officer, Floris Licht, said, with the support of partners like RoomRaccoon, the aim was to plant at least a million trees a year by 2025. “We are very excited about this partnership and look forward to planting many trees together and contributing to a greener hotel world.”
The Guardian reports that successful worldwide tree planting has the potential to reduce human-made carbon emissions by one third.
