My market is me

ITC and founder of Facebook group, Future Female Traveller, Lize Roodt, says she has a passion for working with single female travellers because she is one herself.

“I know now what I want do with my business. I am a single female traveller; I like travelling on my own and I also tend to attract that kind of client,” she says.

Lize founded a Facebook group as a space for women to share their travel experiences and tips, in what is quickly growing as a safe online community. The group was created just over three weeks ago and quickly proved popular. At one point 200 members joined in just four days.

She says it is a group for females who like to travel but also for females who wear the ‘travel pants’ in their family. And Lize has noticed that women like their travel itinerary to be spontaneous but still well planned and safe.

“Safety is a big issue for the single female traveller. There are some places you might not want to go to, and this is the kind of knowledge that is shared in the group. For example, I personally don’t like sitting in Addis Ababa airport because it is chaotic, so when making bookings for my single female clients, I would avoid airlines that stop there,” says Lize. She would rather offer valuable, female-focused advice, like flying via Dubai as an alternative.

“I love tour companies because there’s safety in the group and the women can still enjoy spontaneous adventures,” she adds.
