Munich Airport has begun a six-month pilot in collaboration with Danish company Intelligent Track Systems to trial new smart baggage trolleys.
According to Aviation24.be, the new trolleys have been equipped with tablets to enhance passengers’ pre-departure experience.
“Digitalisation doesn’t always have to happen in the background. These tablets help our guests find their way around the terminal while ensuring they can always keep an eye on the latest flight information,” says COO of Munich Airport, Dr Jan-Henrik Andersson.
“The project is another element of our premium innovation hub. By connecting the digital and the analogue world, it will bring real added value for our passengers.”
Using the tablets, passengers can scan their boarding cards or input their flight details manually to receive real-time flight information and updates. They can also select facilities, such as shops and restaurants, to receive guidance through the terminal via an integrated map and directory.
The trolleys are free to use and can be found in Terminal 2, after security and before duty-free.
