The Independent Flight Attendant Union (UFO) has instructed 19 000 Lufthansa flight attendants to continue striking until Wednesday, March 13, following strikes last week.
The strikes are currently affecting operations at Frankfurt and Munich Airports, and follow failed negotiations for raises for all Lufthansa and Cityline cabin crew.
The pay increase demands relate to complaints by Lufthansa cabin crew that the airlines are not taking into account the severe inflation experienced. Furthermore, the Lufthansa Group announced a record profit of €1,7 billion (R34,75 billion) in 2023, which the UFO feels should be reflected in increases to cabin staff and not only shareholders.
According to the UFO, the strikes will start this morning, Tuesday, March 12, at 04h00 and continue until Wednesday, March 13, at 23h00.
Lufthansa and Cityline announced that the strikes would affect flights departing from Frankfurt Airport today and those departing from Munich on Wednesday.
