Lufthansa has announced that its new Allegris cabins will feature on flights between Cape Town and Munich.

The new Airbus A350 will service the route in time for the winter schedule at the end of the year. In May, Lufthansa began taking delivery of the aircraft fitted with new economy, premium economy, and business-class products.

“We are very happy to be offering these new seats to the South African market, which will provide passengers in all cabins with a higher level of comfort and luxury,” Boris Ogursky, Lufthansa Media Spokesperson for Europe, Middle East and Africa, told Travel News.

Cape Town-Munich will be the first of seven routes to experience the new service. Lufthansa will also be flying the new aircraft on flights between Munich and Bengaluru, Chicago, Montreal, San Francisco, Shanghai, Toronto and Vancouver.

“With Allegris, more than 80 brand-new Lufthansa aircraft, such as Boeing 787-9s, Airbus A350s and Boeing 777-9s, will fly to destinations worldwide. Aircraft already in service with Lufthansa, such as the Boeing 747-8, will also be retrofitted. The simultaneous improvement of the travel experience in all classes and the replacement of more than 27 000 seats are unique in Lufthansa’s history,” the airline said.

Allegris offers business-class passengers a suite with sliding doors for privacy. The first row offers extended space and monitors of up to 69cm. Suites come equipped with a wardrobe and personal minibar. There are four seat options: a classic seat, a double seat, an extra space seat or a privacy seat. The seat reclines to a fully flat bed of 2,2 metres. There are also seats with a baby bassinet.

Those flying in the Allegris premium economy cabin will also have more space and a fold-out leg rest. Adjusting the seat will not affect passengers in the row behind.

In economy class there are additional seats in the first rows of the cabin with more leg-room, available to book for R2 406 or passengers can book the seat next to them for added space subject to availability All seats have tablet holders and USB ports.

The Allegris product range will also feature a new first-class suite, but the carrier has confirmed that this product will only be available once the airline takes delivery of more A350 aircraft, expected in the fourth quarter of 2024.
