GROWING the number of
South African visitors is
at the top of the agenda
for the management of the
newly renovated Shangri-La’s
Le Touessrok Resort & Spa in
Mauritius.
Located on the island’s east
coast, the hotel reopened in
November after an extensive
six-month renovation.
Gabriele Lombardo, resort
gm, speaking to TNW recently
in Cape Town, said while
Le Touessrok’s traditional
market had always been
European – the UK and France
are respectively its biggest
markets followed by Réunion –
the resort wanted to see more
South African visitors.
“The strategic location of
Mauritius with convenient airlift
from SA makes it an attractive
market for South Africans.
There were more than
100 000 arrivals in 2015. It
represents the fourth-largest
market for the resort in terms
of room nights.” he added.
As it offers “quintessentially
Mauritian experiences that
are not available elsewhere”,
Gabriele said the resort was
the ideal spot for families,
while couples could just as
easily let their hair down and
party through the night.
“It’s more than a resort. It’s
a cultural hub, hosting artistic
collaboration that creates a
platform where new talents
can perform and develop.
Each area of the resort has
been conceived to stimulate
the senses and everyone’s
imagination through its
décor, music and its unique
experiences. We have created
a new playground – a new
interpretation of hospitality.”
With exclusive access to Ilot
Mangenie – a private island –
five restaurants, three bars, a
spa, two swimming pools, an
18-hole par-72 championship
golf course and a kids’ club,
Gabriele said all efforts had
been made to cater for just
about every need.
“Through our rebranding we
have brought the resort up
to date but at the same time
have also ushered in a new
era of sophistication and style.
“For us it is about creating
experiences and memories
that will linger long after our
guests depart. Delivering
custom-designed experiences
is integral at Shangri-La’s Le
Touessrok,” he concluded
