Italy’s Via dell’Amore (Path of Love), reputedly the world’s most romantic hiking trail, will reopen on July 27 after being closed for 12 years.
The 800m footpath, located in between Riomaggiore and Manarola, closed in 2012 after a landslide damaged parts of the trail, leaving it unstable.
The route winds around the string of five villages that make up the Cinque Terre UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The first section of the trail reopened for a preview in September last year, as reported by Travel News. It will now fully reopen after years of renovations.
The restoration project has contained the rocks above and below the pathway with steel mesh and planted 8 800 plants to reinforce the landscape.
A monitoring system has also been installed so that warnings can be given in advance about any potential landslides.
