Despite the European Union’s announcement that wearing face masks is no longer mandatory on flights from May 16, Spain and Italy will not immediately drop the mask requirement, according to Travel Off Path.
The Italian Government has reiterated the mandate will remain in place for all forms of transportation across the country for longer, at least until June 15.
Similarly, Spanish Health Minister Carolina Darias confirmed Spain will not scrap masks on flights and public transportation., instead suggesting that measures should be eased more gradually.
While the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) have agreed to lift the mask requirement, this is a nonbinding decision.
