A section of Muizenberg Beach on the False Bay coastline has been closed to the public since Monday, December 12, and will remain closed until further notice.
This is due to an electrical failure at Clifton Road sewer pump station caused by a faulty ultrasonic device. This has since been resolved and the pump station is operating normally.
Various City of Cape Town departments have been activated to respond to the incident, including the repair of the fault at the pump station. As a precaution, City Health ordered the beach to be closed between Muizenberg Pavilion and Sunrise Beach until further notice.
City Health will take water samples on a daily basis for water quality testing until such time as the levels are within the minimum requirement for recreational activities as determined by the National Water Quality Guidelines.
