ETRAVEL founder and ceo,
Garth Wolff, has embarked
on a new venture. He is now
investing in tourism, which he
sees as one of South Africa’s
only really exciting prospects,
with mining and agriculture
both under pressure.
Garth has invested in a
game farm, Blue Canyon
Private Game Reserve, next to
Kapama, near Hoedspruit. Blue
Canyon is a Big Five reserve
and also home to hyena,
cheetah and wild dog. Existing
camps, not owned by Garth,
include Moditlo River Lodge
and Vuyani Safari Lodge.
“We have to tap into our
natural resources and our
people – our people are
amazing,” he told TNW,
adding that tourism was the
way to go.
Over the next five to seven
years, Garth will be building
four lodges in the three- and
four-star segment. He explains
that the five-star business is
saturated.
“My one camp is going to
be aimed at locals,” he says,
adding that it will be selfcatering. This camp, Leopard’s
Bend Safari Bush Camp,
will be open by July and will
accommodate 10 people.
