The Dutch arm of activism group, Extinction Rebellion, has been able to temporarily block two cruise liners entering the city.
Extinction Rebellion is calling for an additional cruise tax to fund development of alternative low-emission fuels.
The group chained and glued themselves to a bridge at Ijmuiden Sea Lock, which is the access point for cruise ships entering Amsterdam.
They halted calls by Royal Caribbean International’s Jewel of the Seas and Regent Seven Seas’ Mariner which were set to dock via the Ijmuiden Sea Lock.
At the second round of disruption, police removed protesters.
Amsterdam city officials recently announced plans to limit cruise ship traffic and relocate cruise vessel berths to a dock outside the city.
