Airlink will commence seasonal flights between Johannesburg and Nosy Be, Madagascar, on December 13.
Rodger Foster, the airline’s md and ceo, told Travel News that Airlink planned to operate weekly flights for six to eight weeks over the peak summer holiday period.
Rodger said although borders were now open between SA and Madagascar, there was not enough demand between now and December to warrant flights.
However, he said the airline would be able to scale up capacity based on demand.
“If there is a take-up of the capacity, we will immediately increase the capacity to a larger aircraft and/or double up the number of flights per week.” He added that the airline could even go daily If there was enough demand.
Like South Africa, Nosy Be airport opened for overseas flights on October 1.
