On Tuesday (August 16), Airlink brought those in the travel trade together to cherish and celebrate the inspiring women in the industry who uplift and motivate us with their strength and perseverance.

Several women from the trade gave their testimonies, sharing their stories of struggle and overcoming adversity to become successful in their careers and livelihoods. One such story came from Captain Herma Fouche, who almost lost her pilot’s licence due to sudden and unexpected health complications that were later resolved. She is now back in the skies serving as a pilot for Airlink once again.

From left - Shereen Hunter, CEO of The Hunter Group; Ingrid Roberts, Motivational Speaker; Carla da Silva; and Renchia Droganis, CEO of Africology.

Fouche remained stoic as she recounted her story of almost losing her job that was also her lifelong passion, attained through extensive hard work after coming from a family not rooted in an aviation-oriented background but rather in farm life. It was through a chance opportunity to go for a ride in a glider as a young teenager that Fouche realised she was passionate about flying and resolved to make it her career, and despite several hurdles along the way, she never gave up.

From left - Katherine Whelan, Airlink Executive Manager Revenue Management, Network & Scheduling; Carol Petersen, GM of Tourvest Travel Services; and Lidia de Olim Folli, CEO of Bidvest Travel Holdings.

If you have any stories of strong, auspicious women in the travel trade whose stories you think deserve to be shared and celebrated this Women’s Month, please write in and let us know here.
