Private carrier Airlink will launch daily direct return flights between Johannesburg and Victoria Falls from August 15, connecting the region’s main economic hub with the iconic tourism destination.
This will be Airlink’s second service to Victoria Falls. The airline currently offers a Cape Town-Vic Falls route.
The announcement follows approvals by Zimbabwe and South Africa’s aviation authorities for the extension of Airlink’s current services between the two countries to include the route between Johannesburg and Victoria Falls. A 98-seat Embraer E-190 jet will be deployed on this route.
The schedule will connect with Airlink’s other services to and from its Johannesburg main base as well as to long-haul flights provided by Airlink’s growing number of global partner airlines.
“Victoria Falls is a jewel in the region’s tourism crown and Airlink is looking forward to re-establishing connectivity between the attraction and Johannesburg,” said Airlink CEO and MD, Rodger Foster.
Airlink is already well established on Zimbabwe routes. “In addition, we provide direct flights connecting Harare with Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban, and between Bulawayo and Johannesburg. With the recent introduction of long-haul flights from Europe directly to Victoria Falls, our services allow customers arriving on those flights to conveniently include South African destinations in their travel plans,” said Foster.
From August 15, the daily flight 4Z 494 will depart Johannesburg at 11h30 and arrive in Victoria Falls at 13h15.
Flight 4Z 495 will depart Victoria Falls at 13h55 and arrive in Johannesburg at 15h35.
